On the Android platform, there is a difference between the actions of dialing and calling. When you dial a number, you enter the digits into the keypad (or programmatically), but no call is actually placed. That is, dialing does not encompass pressing the Send button. When you calla number, you send a signal from your handset. That is, after you enter the number into the dialer, you press the Send button—either physically or programmatically. You need to know the difference between the two actions to understand the scope of the applications you will create in this section.
